thanks for this simple and comprehensive post, it really gave me a lot more clarity and totally relevant to where I’m at with building my website. I have a bit of an aversion to facebook, do you think it is as necessary as Instagram, youtube and twitter? Also can you tell me what a natural backlink is?
    cheers and all the best

Hello Nathan, there are pros and cons of not using Facebook as it is one of the popular platforms. If you have not been using it, I guess you do not have a following there? If that is the case, I would advise you to concentrate on those social media platforms that you have already established. Instagram, youtube and twitter are great and as comparable to Facebook, so use those to your advantage. You might change your mind about Facebook later.

About natural backlinks, as you gained reputation and become more of an authority, other websites may want to link to your website, or people may constantly refer to certain articles on your site if they provide good information. That’s how natural backlinks work.

Hi Moon, thanks yes I have an old personal account that I froze a couple of years ago as I just wasn’t feeling the whole facebook vibe and the whole platform bored the life out of me, but yes I might change my at alater later 😉 I love Instagram and use it for my art, I love youtube and have my music there. I just started a G+ account yesterday so I am fresh in starting my social media with regard to my new venture website http://www.metaphysicalcorporation.com so any advice and insights you might have on how to get things going would be much appreciated 🙂

Thanks for the clarity on natural backlinks, I look forward to them occurring on my website!

Using Instagram for your art is awesome, it is the platform for the visuals! Continue promoting your website there and soon you would garner a bunch of fans.

Sounds like you are quite experienced in using the social media and I wish you the best of luck in your online quest. Your site looks interesting and I will be sure to visit.

          Thank you.

Hi, Moon! What a great information! I love your website. 🙂
Thank you for reminders! Somehow I forgot one thing you mentioned in this article. I need to go change that. 🙂
I want to use youtube videos, but I am not sure if it’s a good idea to use videos that aren’t mine.

I don’t add links to Wikipedia because we can’t trust that information. When I studied in university, professors didn’t allow us to use information from Wikipedia. Of course, I read information from Wikipedia, but I don’t use this information as the main source. Are you sure it’s good to add links to Wikipedia?

I think this article is useful to many people including me. 🙂 Thank you !

Hi Linda! Thank you for the love 🙂

For youtube videos, make sure you view it first and if it’s relevant to your website, you can use it by all means. There won’t be any harm putting it up on your site. If a video has a branding, you are just providing free advertisement for the owner. The only harmful thing I can think of is, if it’s a competitor’s video, your visitors might be attracted to their sites, so make sure you always view the video and judge whether it’s suitable.

You also raise another point on Wikipedia. Well, Wikipedia is an open-source website where anybody can add in contents. If we understand how this works, we will keep an open mind about the things we read on Wikipedia. Of course, if somebody wants in-depth knowledge about something, they should do extensive research, and not merely rely on Wikipedia alone. That being said, whatever we see and read on the internet, we have to be discerning and do our own research.

I hope this clears your concern and thank you for bringing these important issues up.

What a fantastic article I have seen all the separate sections of your article apart on different article on the internet but never all in one place. The information I like the most was about back links as I have never researched them before. Well done 🙂

    Hey Moon,
Great tips here. Being a new blogger, I am slowly absorbing all these new information and putting them into action.

I have a question in regards to social media though. I am wondering whether I should be using my own personal social media account (say Facebook) who has all my personal and work contacts to announce my blog posts, or should I create another account targeting my niche. What do you think?

Thanks for another great article. I know you mention videos and images above and I had quick question. Does the video have to be a video from say my own youtube channel or can I link to someone else’s video and embed it into my article? Is one better than the other?

      Hi Craig,

You can either link or embed to your own or anyone else’s video. In terms of website SEO, it does not really make a difference.

However, if you want to build up your brand, having your own youtube channel and linking to your own videos is definitely the way to go. You will quickly build up followers by having an established brand.
